How We Got Here
My husband and I travelled by car to Newfoundland in 2007. A most ruggedly beautiful province, being discovered by more and more Canadians every year. Ending up at the end of the highway on the northern coast – we found ourselves in Twillingate, an outport fishing town at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It was very hard to leave and a promise to ourselves to return the following year was borne out with great anticipation. In 2008 we returned to fall in love with it all over again and decided that we needed to live here. For artists and photographers – it is the ultimate location/totally inspiring. Textures, colour, light – the sea, rocks and cliffs, the stages and sheds and stores and premises – all fishing terms; the simpler lifestyle and the trusting nature of people that is a throwback to the 50s.
We bought a house within a few days of being here, drove back to Roseneath and sold our house overnight. Within a few weeks we were ensconced in our little house on the ocean – just yards away from the stony beach. Out there somewhere is Greenland :0)
I have given workshops here in puppet building, mask making and painting and drawing.
John and I have both had successful exhibitions of photography and painting.
We travel around the province, finding a bottomless treasure trove of magnificent scenery, delightful fishing villages and warm and welcoming local people.
We are an 1+ hour to Gander and it’s airport (famous for taking in thousands of airline passengers on the day of 911). From Gander it is but a 2 hour flight to Toronto.
